It weighs three kilograms and measures over one meter. Meet the Sony FE 600 mm F4 G Master – a telephoto lens with great optics and an extremely long focal length.
The Sony FE 400 mm f / 2.8 GM OSS made a great impression. It guaranteed great optics and, although it was huge and heavy, it was still the lightest glass in its class. Meanwhile, Sony presents another long barrel with great parameters – 600 mm F4 G Master . It is again a powerful glass, although the lightest in its class.
To enable the full use of highly developed AF systems from the latest full-frame cameras with E-mount, the new 600 mm F4 FE lens GM OSS has been equipped with two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors . They drive a group of focusing lenses and provide fast and accurate auto focus and object tracking. The work of these engines is supported by specially developed algorithms that reduce reaction time, unstable operation and noise level. The extremely fast, accurate and quiet operation of the AF system helps capture fast-moving athletes and wild animals.
The new supertele prime lens is a representative of the flagship Sony G Master series. Like all of its lenses, it provides exceptional quality and detail of image reproduction, impressive contrast and high optical resolution even in the corners of the frame. The unique optical design uses a large lens XA (extreme aspherical) and a lens made of Super ED glass (with very little dispersion), obtaining effective compensation for aberrations typical of telephoto lenses. Three fluorite lenses, in turn, reduce chromatic aberration and eliminate color spillage. The latest simulation techniques and the XA lens were also used to control spherical aberration and further improve the bokeh effect. In turn, the circular aperture was equipped with 11 leaflets . In addition, the 600 mm F4 GM OSS lens works with 1.4x and 2.0x Sony teleconverters with an E mount.
Heavy, but still the lightest
The new supertele prime lens weighs "only" 3040 g. It is the lightest product in its class . The technology from the well-known FE 400 mm F2,8 GM OSS contributed to this lightness. The new lens uses three fluorite lenses, while the number of lenses on the front of the tube has been reduced. Smaller dimensions and weight are also the result of using a magnesium alloy. With the FE 400 mm F2.8 GM OSS model, another solution was also adopted: a construction that eliminates the heavy weight at the front of the lens . This helped to reduce the moment of inertia and provide faster, more accurate panning when taking photos from the hand or monopod. A number of physical controls are located on the lens barrel, including four focus lock buttons to which other functions can be assigned, and a DMF switch for immediate manual focus. There was also a focus ring, which, thanks to the Linear Response MF system, enables quick and accurate manual focusing.
Price and availability
The lens should start shopping in August this year . We do not know the exact price yet. However, considering that the Sony FE 400 mm f / 2.8 GM OSS costs 55 thousand. PLN, certainly there is no reason to expect a lower price.
