Coloring black and white photos – is it possible? Of course. What's more, you can do it with one click and absolutely free.

I am lucky recently to find interesting sites for photo editing. I've already advised on how to take my own photos and how to remove the background from the photo. Both solutions are based on websites, they are free and very easy. Today, however, I have a solution for you, which in my humble opinion beats two previous ones. Thanks to this website you can color old, black and white photos for free.

How to color old photos?

I remember so far, as I discovered that in Photoshop you can color a black and white photo. I scanned the old portrait from the album and spent the whole day on painstaking work. I was proud of the effect. At that time I had no idea that a few years later I would get a better effect using the free website, which will color itself in a few seconds.

Colourise.SG

Colourise.SG

The mentioned tool is the page colourise.sg . It was developed by a team of scientists using intelligent algorithms and a tool for "learning" colors, it is able to color black and white photos that we throw ourselves. The whole process takes only a few seconds , and the only thing we have to do is load the image. The rest will be done by ColouriseSG. What are the effects? Really very good. Of course – the website can sometimes be wrong, not all colors can be rendered perfectly, but you have to admit that the pictures look very decent and natural. If you've watched colored movies created from archival materials, such as "Warsaw Uprising" or "Independence", then you know what type of colors you will get. See the following example for how it looks in practice:

Colorful photos from black and white – for free

Well, the above example looks pretty good, you'll admit. We do not know, however, how this picture would look original as colorful. Let's try differently then. From the site with free photos I downloaded a boy's portrait. Then I changed the colors to black and white, and then I put a black and white photo on the page colourise.sg. How was the tool handled this time?

As you can see, the effect is really very decent again. The tool recognized green leaves, hair color, and it did not have a problem with putting the shirt on. The boy's face color also looks natural. One can only notice that the picture is slightly pale, not saturated enough. With this you can easily cope by throwing them into the first better graphics program and conquering colors.

In my opinion, this site can work wonders. And what is important – it is free and does not impose any restrictions. The finished photo is the same size as the original, and there is no watermark. Imagine now the faces of your parents or grandparents who will see their pictures of youth in color? It can be an invaluable experience.
