How to make good photos at concerts? What camera settings will be the best? What lens to choose for concerts?

Holidays are coming to an end and the concerts are moving from outdoor scenes to clubs where there are a lot of interesting events. How to deal with the camera at concerts? What equipment will be the best for such a party? What should be remembered during concerts? These are just a few of the questions I have answered in the new entry in the series of maniac guides for the photographer.

Stoppers, that is health and safety

Safety and own health primarily. When you are planning on going to the concert , get your earphones . They may be the cheapest, most common accessories. I bought my for 6 gold in one of the network stores. Why are stopwatches so important? At concerts with accreditation (and I assume that you will be so), most often land in the so-called. The moat , that is the place between the stage and the barriers – there are also speakers. It is no secret that in the club even at the end of the hall is loud enough that you can not normally talk. So imagine a situation where you have a face a dozen centimeters from the speaker. Earplugs are the basis.

Work fast, be attentive

At concerts you do not usually have much time . Most often, the period you can shoot is the first three songs, and then you have to get out of the moat and hide the camera. This is understandable because no artist wants to look bad in pictures, and on stage (and moat) is hot so people just sweat. Sometimes it even happens that the artist plays only 2-3 songs and will not be able to take him pictures from the hide . It is no secret that lighting is dynamic and hard to predict at concerts. Because of this you have to work not only fast but also know your equipment and know how to react. Besides, the artists themselves do different things, just like the public, so you have to be careful to capture key moments.

No lamp and bright optics

At the concert in most cases the lamp will not be useful . Few people accept it, but I managed to do some gigs where the flash was not forbidden. This allowed light to shine and show the face of the character. But without a lamp you can do it, you just have to hit the right light. Clear optics will be needed. You do not have to have 70-200 F2.8 glass, it's just plain fifty. Bright lenses will let you go down with ISO – the background should rather not distract you, because most of them are simply light. The time I suggest you also stick to a constant, in me is the value between 1/160 and 1/320.

Glasses that I would recommend to concerts? Definitely something from the list of 4 lenses you should have. The photos I usually do with the help of 50mm. It is worth adding that they are useful for quick glasses which have no problems with backlighting.

Patience and consideration

Do not shoot blind. Concerts are a game of lights where you can free your creativity and have some fun. You can show the outline of a character or one illuminated page. It all depends on your creativity and on what kind of light you will get.

Do not forget about the audience as well. Some of the lights are on them so you can shoot something interesting. Besides, people like to react spontaneously to what is needed in the general coverage of the concert. Most often, viewers are also interested in whether or not they will find themselves in the picture.

It is worth to be patient, because there are moments when lighting does not allow anything. The worst is the red and blue light falling on the figure. Then there is not much to do – hard to remove such colors from the skin, in addition often escapes sharpness and lenses will not always work quickly in such lighting. There may be a lot of irrelevant frames, but do not be discouraged. Here you can work. The key is only the appropriate time operation. The concert photo is not too difficult. Having a simple SLR camera and a bright 50 will make you a lot of successful shots that can be very satisfying thanks to the proper lighting. The main thing is not to give up and how often to photograph.
