In Los Angeles at the Cine Gear Expo 2017, Panasonic unveiled its new AU-EVA1 film camera for the first time. The model is to be the intermediate solution between the Panasonic Lumix GH5 4K digital camera and the professional VariCam LT 4K camcorder.
The AU-EVA1 has been equipped with a new Super 35mm 5.7K matrix to allow for a true cinematic quality. Provides native resolution of 5.7K , while offering the ability to scale to 4K, UHD, 2K and even 720p. This gives the camera better detection of color information, which guarantees a precise image finish. The new model benefits from the flagship Panasonic VariCam 35, VariCam LT and VariCam Pure video cameras. One of their key features is dual native ISO. By using a process that enables the sensor to read in a diametrically opposite way, the double ISO extracts more information without degrading the image. This means that it can switch from standard to higher sensitivity without increasing the noise level and without generating artifacts. The camera has a compact housing (17 cm x 13.5 cm x 13.3 cm), weighs only 1.2 kg and has a removable handle. This enables the EVA1 to be used for hand-held, arm-mounted shooting, and can be mounted on the side or jib arms when it is necessary to provide smooth movement of the camera. Offers recording in several formats and compression ratios, including: In 10-bit format 4.2.2 at 4K resolution. Full range of supported recording formats will be available when the camcorder enters the market. The model has an EF mount , allowing you to use a wide range of prime and zoom lenses. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is used to compensate for possible vibration and blurring of images when recording from a hand or attaching to an arm. Behind the lens mount is a built-in ND filter wheel with 2, 4 and 6 steps that precisely controls the exposure. As a professional video production tool, EVA1 offers two balanced XLR audio inputs and HDMI and SDI video outputs for 4K signals. The planned EVA1 software upgrade will also offer a RAW output of 5.7K to third-party recorders. Panasonic AU-EVA1 camera on the market will appear in the autumn, and its price will be around the IBC 2017 . Source: press release.
